Network Traffic Monitor 1.2

Network Traffic Monitor (NTM) es un programa que nos permite monitorear el tráfico de nuestra conexión a Internet. Es especialmente útil para quien tiene un plan de Internet limitado y no quiere excederse del mismo.

Alguna de sus características son:

• Elección de la conexión a monitorear.
• Elección del tiempo a monitorear: día, semana, mes, año o elegir un período.
• Posibilidad de auto desconexión automática si se alcanza el límite estipulado.
• Monitorea el tráfico entrante, saliente y total, mostrando la velocidad.
• Muestra el tiempo total conectado durante el período.
• No necesita privilegios de administrador.
• No es invasivo, se puede manejar desde un ícono en el panel.
• Posibilidad de obtener reportes con promedios diarios sobre un período determinado.

Esta es la lista de cambios de la versión:

• Internationalization. At present with English and Italian translation.

  • Show the main windows.
  • Show a NotifyOSD message with a summary.
• The system tray icon change the colour according to online state, I also changed the style of these in order to integrate better with the default gnome themes. (if you want change the icon, replace this icon /usr/share/ntm/stf/ntm.svg for the offline state. change /usr/share/ntm/stf/ntm_active.svg for the online state)
• Main window: remember the last position and size.

Bugfix:

• In the Time Module, the autoupdate of period now work fine.
• Autorun in KDE and Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Remix.
• Fix some the bug into installation script:
  • Now any user (different from the user that has installed NTM) can run NTM properly.
  • You can install a new versions of NTM without having to uninstall the previous version. Warning! If you have istalled a version of NTM < 1.2 then you must first uninstall the old version and then proceed to installing the new version.
• Fix the bug: Division by 0 in the Time module.
• Now NTM handle properly the event generated after deselect “Enable network” in NetworkManager Applet.
• Info/news is loaded in the startup only in the online state.
• Now for Info/News and Report is used webkit as web browser engine (package python-webkit).
• Some bugfix in ntmtools.formatTime.
• Some fix for Ubuntu 10.04.

Podemos instalarla en Lucid con el siguiente paquete deb:

ntm-1.2.deb

Una vez instalado, lo encontramos en Aplicaciones > Internet > NTM.

Al ejecutarlo nos agregará un icono en el panel:

Haciendo click derecho sobre el mismo, podemos acceder al menú de Preferencias desde donde podemos configurar la conexión a monitorear, si deseamos que el programa se inicie automáticamente al comenzar una sesión, asignar un límte en MB, el tiempoa monitorear, etc.

Una vez configurado el programa se encarga de todo, pudiendo en cualquier momento hacer click sobre el icono para ver en tiempo real que está sucediendo:

Además es muy útil la herramienta de reportes desde donde podemos elegir el tiempo que queremos controlar, mostrándonos el tráfico recibido y transmitido, además de los promedios diarios:
